Chip Sampling
Who should attend?
It`s essential that anyone, physically involved in any aspect of taking, gathering, chipping or cutting a mine sample, to determine the mineral content thereof must attend this course.
New or first time employees entering a Sampling department, Mineral/Ore resources attendant’s, Sampling chippers and/or cutters will benefit from this course.
The aim of this certificate is to target the Mineral/Ore resources employee, whose responsibility or job description expect from him/her to physically take a sample.
The main objective being the understanding and importance of taking a good quality sample.
Course outcomes.
On completion of the course, the learner will be able to successfully demonstrate:
- Sampling methods and execution
- Importance of collecting a well-balanced, representative sample
- Consequences of incorrect sampling
- Unsupervised chipping/cutting of mine samples
- Safe Sampling practices

Open Pit and Exploration Sampling
Who should attend?
This course is aimed at members of the Mineral Resource/Ore Reserve/Technical Services Department who deals with exploration and open pit sampling.
Course content.
On completion of the course, the learner will be able to successfully demonstrate:
- Introduction to Sampling
- Introduction to SAMREC/SAMVAL
- Sampling Methods –
Exploration Percussion/RC/Core Diamond Drill Sampling, Surface Sampling, Grab Sampling, Broken Rock Sampling, Draw Point Sampling, Surface Rail Ballast sampling, Stockpile sampling, Waste Dump sampling, etc. - Safe handling and maintenance of sampling equipment
- Sampling Preparation and administration
- Assay Laboratory
- Analysis and use of sampling results
- Risk Management
- Procedures, protocols and quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC)

MRM Grade Control
Who should attend?
This course is aimed at members of the Mineral Resource/Ore
Reserve/Technical Services departments who deal with grade control
matters. Geology, Survey, Sampling and Mine Planning Department
incumbents will therefore benefit from this practical approach to
understanding grade behaviour in an orebody.
Objective of the course.
By the end of this course, the candidate will understand the flow of ore, the loss of mineral, tonnage balance, the impact on final mineral output as well as the benefit of recovery of lost mineral from the production face to the tailings dam.
Course Content.
On completion of the course, the learner will be able to successfully demonstrate:
- Introduction to Grade Control
- Safety in MRM grade management
- Introduction to SAMREC/SAMVAL
- Objective of the MRM grade management course
- Introduction to SAMREC/SAMVAL
- Ore flow route analysis including auditing practices
- Sampling methods, preparation, administration
- The pay-limit and the cut-off grade
- Best practice – clean mining
- Grade financial valuation
- Reduction plant and assay laboratory (auditing)
- Report writing
- Procedures, protocols, quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC)
